Voice Processing: From Raw Audio to Broadcast Standards
⏱️ 3 MIN READ
Behind Sonodit's intuitive interface lies one of the most sophisticated cloud-based Digital Signal Processing (DSP) chains currently available. We do more than just stitch tracks together; we perform surgical restoration and voice optimisation to meet the most stringent broadcast standards for terrestrial radio (AM/FM) and digital audio systems.
Our Step-by-Step Voice Signal Chain:
- Peak and RMS Normalisation to -2dB: We adjust the voiceover gain to set a strict dynamic ceiling of -2dB. This ensures the signal achieves maximum volume without the risk of digital clipping or unwanted harmonic distortion.
- Spectral Noise and Artefact Removal: We intelligently filter out digital background noise and any low or high-frequency interference that might compromise audio clarity.
- Dynamic Silence and Breath Control: Our system automatically detects intrusive or overly prominent breaths, removing them entirely. Furthermore, it calibrates the milliseconds of silence between phrases to provide a fluid, dynamic, and natural pace.
- Sibilance Treatment via De-esser: The harsh high frequencies produced by sibilant consonants (such as 'S') are attenuated using an algorithmic de-esser that softens the signal without sacrificing pronunciation clarity.
- Multiband Compression and Harmonic Enhancement: We apply frequency-split compression to level the voice's dynamics, keeping it firmly in the mix. Finally, we inject subtle harmonics to 'sweeten' the signal, delivering that warmth, weight, and presence characteristic of high-end condenser microphones found in elite professional studios.
